Women’s Soccer Tops Tufts in Scrimmage, 4-1

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Four different Harvard student-athletes scored goals, and eight different Crimson players registered points as Harvard University women's soccer topped Tufts University, 4-1, in a scrimmage on Monday night at Jordan Field.
 
Coming off a 1-0 win over Fairfield on Friday in its season opener, the Crimson took a 3-0 lead over the visiting Jumbos in the first 20 minutes and held a 4-0 advantage at halftime. Tufts registered a late goal in the 85th minute for the final score line.
 
Senior Murphy Agnew opened the game's scoring in the fifth minute, volleying a cross into the back of the net, before first-year Áslaug Gunnlaugsdóttir connected on a goal in the 14th minute. First-year Nicola Golen made the score 3-0 in the 20th minute, carrying the ball along the right side before scoring off the post. Junior Angela Caloia capped the Crimson's scoring with a goal in the 36th minute. For the Jumbos, Liz Reed scored the visitors' goal.

  • First-year Áslaug Gunnlaugsdóttir recorded three points on the evening, scoring Harvard's second goal after assisting on the team's first tally.
  • Junior Angela Caloia scored a goal after netting the game-winning goal in the Crimson's season-opening 1-0 victory over Fairfield on Friday.
  • Senior Lara Schenk notched a pair of assists on the night.
  • Junior Ava Lung and sophomores Megan Mackey and Cayla McFarlane added one assist apiece.
  • Alongside her goal, senior Murphy Agnew led all student-athletes with four shots.
  • Senior goalkeeper Samantha Schmitz made one save in the first half and did not allow a goal. Junior Hannah Gardner and sophomore Anna Karpenko split time for the Crimson in net in the second half.
  • For the match, Harvard held advantages in shots (14-5) and shots on goal (8-2). Each team attempted one corner kick.

  • Harvard played at Jordan Field's newly installed turf surface for the first time.
What's Next?
Harvard travels across town to face Boston University on Thursday, Sept. 2 at 7:00 p.m. (ESPN+) before returning home to host Big East opponent St. John's on Sunday, Sept. 5 at 1:00 p.m. (ESPN+) at Ohiri Field.
