No. 13 Field Hockey Shuts Down Northeastern, 4-0, in Home Opener

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – In its long-awaited return to Berylson Field, No. 13 Harvard field hockey (5-0) didn't disappoint, notching a 4-0 victory over Northeastern (1-5) for its fifth straight win to start the season.

Sophomore Emily Berlinghof had a goal and an assist, and Olivia Hoover, Lucy Leel, and Maddie Mullaney all added goals for the Crimson. Junior goalkeeper Ellie Shahbo made four saves to earn her third straight shutout in net.

Berlinghof got the scoring started for the Crimson, poking in a loose ball from just in front of the net at 4:59 to make it 1-0.

The score remained that way at the half, but Harvard scored twice in a span of less than five minutes early on in the third quarter to take control of the game.

Hoover batted a pass from Berlinghof out of the air and into the net at 1:38 of the third quarter. Then Leel scored the highlight reel goal of the game, sending a reverse-stick shot into the top of the net to make it 3-0 at 6:47 of the third quarter.

First-year Maddie Mullaney added her first career goal at 4:04 of the fourth quarter to round out the scoring for Harvard.
