Box Score STORRS, CT – In a back-and-forth contest between ranked teams, No. 13 Harvard field hockey (5-1) fell 1-0 in penalty strokes (2-1) at No. 16 UConn (4-4) despite an outstanding performance in net by junior Ellie Shahbo (five saves).
The Crimson had all of the early momentum in the contest, recording three shots in the opening quarter and holding UConn without a shot for the entire first half.
Shahbo was at her best in the third quarter, diving to make a stick save on a UConn penalty corner at 5:53 of the third quarter. Shahbo made another diving stop on a penalty corner shot by UConn's Abby Gooderham at 10:02 to keep the Huskies off the board.
Early in overtime, senior captain Mimi Tarrant had a good chance for Harvard after a penalty corner on a shot off a pass from Hannah Pearce, but UConn goalkeeper Cheyenne Sprecher (four saves) made the stop.
In penalty strokes, Rachel Greenwood scored on Harvard's first attempt, but UConn added two goals in its first four attempts to help seal the win.
