STATE COLLEGE, Pa. – Harvard women's golf completed its first event of the fall season with a strong final day at the Nittany Lion Invitational to finish in 11th place at the Penn State White Course this weekend (Sept. 4-5). Progress was the theme of the tournament for the Crimson, who improved its scoring in each of the three rounds. Harvard opened with team totals of 304 (+16) and 302 (+14) on day one, before turning in a collective score of 294 (+6) in Sunday's final round.
Playing in the first event of her collegiate career, sophomore
Isabella Gomez led the way individually for the Crimson, finishing T21 at 5-over 221. Gomez was followed by classmate,
Meiyi Yan, who posted an impressive showing competing as an individual, ending the weekend at 7-over 223 to place T35. Next were senior
Chloe Royston at 10-over 226 (T44), first-year
Katie Dzialga at 11-over-227 (T48), senior captain,
Anina Ku at 15-over 231 (T64) and sophomore
Yoona Kim at 16-over 232 (T66).
Harvard Highlights
- The team's third round score of 294 (+6) was the sixth-best final round score among the 14 teams in the field. The performance vaulted the Crimson from 13th to 11th on the leaderboard.
- Isabella Gomez, Yoona Kim and Katie Dzialga tied for the team lead in birdies for the tournament with six apiece.
- Harvard finished second among the event's three Ivy League participants, ahead of Penn but behind Princeton.
Tournament Notes:
- Tournament host, Penn St. won the tournament by 12 shots with a team total of 13-under-par.
- Junior, Mathilde Delavallade of Penn St. was the tournament's low individual, finishing the weekend at 10-under-par with rounds of 69-68-69.
- The event was played at the PSU White Course (par 72, 6115 yards)
Up Next: The Crimson will return to the course for the Princeton Invitational at Springdale Country Club Sept. 25-26.
