CAMBRIDGE, Mass. –
Becca Gilmore reached 100 career points, the Crimson defense surrendered a season-low nine shots on goal and No. 10/RV Harvard (10-5-0, 7-3-0 ECAC Hockey) skated its way to a 5-1 victory over a shorthanded Brown (2-14-2, 2-7-1 ECAC Hockey) squad on Friday night at Bright-Landry Hockey Center.
Gilmore picked up a goal and an assist to register the two points necessary to become the 25th player in Harvard women's hockey history to record 100 points. In net, senior goaltender
Becky Dutton earned her team-high fifth win of the season, making eight saves and allowing just one goal.
Although the score line finished in Harvard's favor, it was Brown who struck first at 6:33 in the first period when senior Tina Paolillo redirected a shot from the point by sophomore Cassidy Piersiak to put the visitors ahead, 1-0.
That lead would last for just over a minute before a Harvard power-play resulted in the Crimson drawing level when defender
Maryna Macdonald fired a one-time rocket from the blue-line past Brown goalie Hayley Kliczko. Then, at 16:01 in the opening frame, first-year
Taze Thompson continued her offensive surge with a spectacular goal, feigning to her backhand side before dragging the puck back to her forehand and elevating it off the left post and into the back of the net. The goal was number five on the season for Thompson and gave Harvard a 2-1 advantage at the first intermission.
Midway through the second period,
Shannon Hollands extended the Harvard lead, taking a pass from
Mia Biotti and firing a forehand from the left circle into the top of the cage for what was the sophomore's first goal of the season. Less than four minutes later, with Harvard on the power-play, Gilmore got her milestone moment, taking a pass from Thompson in front of the net and wrapping a forehand around the Bears goaltender for her team-best 10th goal of the season.
The scored remained at 4-1 for nearly the entirety of period number three until
Kristin Della Rovere scored an empty-net goal with 40 seconds remaining, resulting in a 5-1 final.

- Harvard scored two goals on the power-play for the third straight game. The team has scored at least one power-play goal in five consecutive contests, overall.
- The Crimson outshot the Bears on the night by a margin of 36-9. It is the first time this season that Harvard surrendered less than 10 shots on goal in a game.
- Harvard went 30-14 at the face-off dot for the game, outdueling its opponent in draws for the 13th time in 15 games.
- Due to a number of inactives, Brown dressed just 13 skaters and two goalies for the game.
