CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Sophomore forwards
Alex Laferriere and
Sean Farrell each had a goal and two assists, and junior captain
Nick Abruzzese also had a goal and two assists to help lead No. 19 Harvard men's ice hockey (7-4-1) to a 6-3 win over Connecticut (8-7-0) at Bright-Landry Hockey Center.
Junior goaltender
Mitchell Gibson had 32 saves to earn the win in net, including 22 in the second period alone.
The Crimson got off to a quick start, as
Austin Wong (7:12) and
Marshall Rifai (17:05) scored in the opening period to give Harvard a 2-0 lead. A late goal by UConn's Artem Shlaine (19:45) made it a one-goal game after 20 minutes.
The Huskies tied the game at 2:36 of the second period on Jachym Kondelik's goal – but Harvard responded with two late-period goals to regain a two-goal lead.
Farrell gave the Crimson the lead for good at 14:38, taking a pass from Abruzzese, skating down the left wing and beating UConn goaltender Darion Hanson over the shoulder at 14:38 to to make it 3-2. Then in the final minute of the second period, with Harvard on the power play, Laferriere jammed in his own rebound to make it 4-2 at 19:20.
In the third period, UConn cut the lead to one again at 6:54. But Abruzzese's power play goal at 17:54 sealed the win, and
Baker Shore added an empty netter at 19:59.
