No. 9/9 Women’s Ice Hockey Riding High as Team Prepares for Princeton, Quinnipiac

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – No. 9/9 Harvard (12-5-0, 9-3-0 ECAC Hockey) will leave Cambridge for the first time in nearly two months as the team puts its six-game ECAC Hockey win-streak on the line at Princeton (8-7-3, 6-4-1 ECAC Hockey) and No. 4/4 Quinnipiac (16-3-3, 8-2-0 ECAC Hockey) on Friday (Jan. 21) and Saturday (Jan. 22). 
 
The Crimson will first face the Tigers on Friday night at 6 p.m. before taking on the Bobcats on Saturday at 3 p.m. Both contests can be seen live on ESPN+ and Stretch Internet internationally with Friday's came also available in Canada on TSN.ca/TSN app. 
 
Harvard last played on the road back on Nov. 23, a 3-2 win against New Hampshire. The team has since played seven straight games at home, going 5-2 in that span. For the season, the Crimson is 8-3-0 at home and 4-2-0 away from Bright-Landry Hockey Center. 
 
Per current University attendance policies, Friday's meeting with Princeton will be closed to those outside the Princeton University community, while Saturday's matchup with Quinnipiac is open to the public, with spectators required to wear masks.

What to Know
  • Harvard scored a season-high eight goals its last time on the ice, beating Dartmouth 8-0 on Tuesday (Jan. 18). Junior Anne Bloomer registered the Crimson's first hat trick of the year in that contest, bringing her 2021-22 season goal total to a team-high 12. 
  • Senior Becca Gilmore continues to lead Harvard in points, now up to 22 on the year (11 goals, 11 assists). Gilmore has nine multi-point games this season and points in eight of her last nine. 
  • Junior center Kristin Della Rovere has points in 14 of 17 games this season, including 13 of Harvard's last 14 games. 
  • Goaltender Becky Dutton is riding a three-game win streak in net, allowing just two goals combined in her last three starts. Dutton posted her second shutout of the year on Tuesday against Dartmouth and now boasts a record of 7-2-0 for the year. 
  • The Harvard power-play has scored in seven consecutive games and is up to a 26.2 percent success rate on the season, fourth highest in Division I. 
  • Harvard owns a team faceoff win percentage of .613 on the year, the highest in Division I. The team has won more faceoffs than its opponent in 15 of its 17 games this year. Della Rovere leads the way with 202 wins at the faceoff dot, while Taze Thompson has won 70.2 percent of her draws this season. 
  • The Crimson is featured in both national polls this week, coming in at No. 9 in the USCHO rankings and the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine poll. It is the seventh week this season in which Harvard appears inside the top 10 in both national polls. 
  • Princeton started ECAC Hockey play 5-1-1 but is just 1-3-0 in conference since Nov. 20. 
  • Quinnipiac is giving up just 1.36 goals per game, ranking them third in scoring defense in the nation. Bobcats goalie, Corinne Schroeder ranks second in Division 1 in save percentage (.955) and third in goals against average (1.22). 
  • Harvard 48-35-6 all-time VS. Princeton. The teams have split the last 12 matchups 5-5-2.  
  • The Crimson holds a 19-10-3 advantage over Quinnipiac all-time but has gone 1-6-1 against the Bobcats dating back to the 2016-17 season.  
 
At the Helm: 
Katey Stone, The Landry Family Head Coach for Harvard Women's Ice Hockey, is in her 27th year at the helm of the women's hockey program. Prior to the 2021-22 season, Stone compiled a 494-253-54 record. During Summer 2021, Stone was named the recipient of USA Hockey's Distinguished Achievement Award, recognizing a U.S. citizen who has made hockey his or her profession, and has made outstanding contributions, on or off the ice, to the sport in America. No stranger to trailblazing in the sport, Stone was the first woman to be recognized for the award. Through her tenure at Harvard, Stone has coached six Patty Kazmaier Award winners, 24 All America selections, 13 Olympians and 11 NWHL/CWHL Draft picks. Her teams have won 11 Beanpot championships, seven ECAC Tournament titles and have advanced to the NCAA Tournament 11 times.

Harvard continues its ECAC Hockey slate with a pair of home games against Clarkson and St. Lawrence next Friday (Jan. 28) and Saturday (Jan. 29). Friday's puck drop with the Golden Knights will be at 6 p.m. Game time is set for 3 p.m. on Saturday with the Saints.
