HAMILTON, N.Y. – Junior forward
John Farinacci scored twice, including the game-winning goal with 4:18 to play to lift Harvard men's ice hockey (10-7-1, 8-5-1 ECAC Hockey) to a 5-3 win at Colgate (8-14-2, 3-7-2 ECAC Hockey) on Friday night (Jan. 28).

Junior goaltender
Mitchell Gibson made 28 saves, including 10 in the third period to earn the win in net.

At the end of a shift, first-year forward
Alex Gaffney intercepted a breakout pass and found Farinacci alone cutting to the net. His backhander beat Colgate goaltender Andrew Farrier (34 saves) to break a 3-3 tie and put Harvard ahead for good at 15:42.

Senior defenseman
Marshall Rifai added insurance just over two minutes later when his shot from the point beat Farrier high at 17:47.

Harvard got off to a fast start, scoring two goals in the first five-plus minutes to take a two-goal lead early on.

The Crimson converted on its first power play chance, as a failed Colgate clear went right to junior defenseman
Henry Thrun.

Thrun fed
Alex Laferriere, who ripped a low shot past Farrier to make it 1-0 at 4:32.

On the next shift, Farinacci put in a rebound on the short side to make it 2-0 at 5:20.

Colgate's Josh McKechney answered for the Raiders at 7:27 to cut the lead to 2-1.

But Harvard responded again, as senior forward
Jack Donato redirected an
Ian Moore shot from the point into the net at 12:11.

The Raiders had the last word in the period however, as Matt Verboon put in a rebound with Colgate on the power play in a net front scramble at 17:48.

Colgate tied the game early in the second period on Griffin Lunn's goal at 4:04.

Despite three power play chances in the middle frame, the Crimson could not get one past Farrier.

Gibson came up with his biggest stop of the night on a breakaway for Colgate's Arnaud Vachon, kicking out his right pad to make the save at the 10:15 mark, and the game remained tied heading to the third.
