Box Score CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Harvard women's hockey (0-1-0, 0-1-0 ECAC) battled it out with the Quinnipiac Bobcats (7-0-0, 1-0-0 ECAC) in the 2022-23 season opener, but fell to the ECAC foe 5-2 in the contest.
Senior captains,
Kristin Della Rovere and
Anne Bloomer, picked up where she left off a season ago, scoring the Crimson's two goals in the contest.
Alex Pellicci made 27 in her season debut for the Crimson.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- After going back and forth in the first few minutes of play, Quinnipiac netted the first goal of the contest, 2:35 into the opening period
- The Bobcats scored back to back goals at 6:32 and 7:40 in the period to take an early 3-0 advantage
- Starting Goaltender, Alex Pellicci settled in well after, making 12 saves in the remainder of the period
- Later in the period, Anne Bloomer threaded a great cross-ice pass to Kristin Della Rovere who stuffed a shot into the back of the net to make the score 3-1
- Harvard put five shots on goal in the first five minutes of the second period, but could not get another tally on the board
- Bloomer had another great look deep in the Quinnipiac zone, but her backhand attempt caught a piece of the pipe before ringing out wide
- Quinnipiac was able to add another goal late in the period to take a 4-1 lead into the locker room
- Bloomer added another tally on the board for her squad in the third period
- Quinnipiac fought back with one more goal before time expired
HARVARD HIGHLIGHTS
- Sophomore goaltender, Alex Pellicci made 47 saves in the contest
- Senior Kristin Della Rovere netted the first Harvard goal of the season, her 51st career goal
- Anne Bloomer netted the other Crimson goal, her first of the season and 40th of her career
- Eleanor WInges notched two assists on the day for her first career multi-point game
- The first assist also served as Winges' first career point
- Rose O'Connor also recorded her first career point with an assist on the Bloomer goal
- Bloomer's five shots on goal was best on the team
- Defensewomen, Kyra Willoughby, blocked a team-high five shots
- Della-Rovere and Shannon Hollands led the team in the faceoff circles with eight wins each
- As a team, Harvard blocked 22 Bobcat shots
- No team recorded a penalty today, which is the first time that has occurred since at least 2008-09

Harvard will continue its homestand next weekend when it welcomes Dartmouth to Cambridge for a Friday night tilt at the Bright-Landry Hockey Center. Puck drop between the Crimson and the Big Green is slated for 6 pm and will be streamed live on ESPN+.
