Walker Concludes ITA Super Regional Run, Earns Spot in ITA Fall Nationals

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – No. 39 Harry Walker led the Crimson at the ITA Super Regionals this weekend by making runs to the singles finals and doubles semifinals.  In making the finals, Walker has earned a spot at the ITA Fall Nationals in two weekends in San Diego, CA.

"I'm really proud of how hard we competed.  A special shoutout to our first years who pushed themselves and had some impressive wins," says Andrew Rueb, The Scott Mead '77 Head Coach for Harvard Men's Tennis, The James Herscot '58 Coach of Excellence.  "There were a lot of highlight moments for the team over the weekend but Harry's efforts to get to the finals of singles and semis of doubles certainly deserves recognition.  He is reaching new heights in his game, and it is fun to watch his dynamic, power game in action."

To begin the day, Walker took down No. 10 Alex Kotzen in convincing fashion.

Following his semifinals win, Walker moved onto the finals to take on Michael Zheng (Columbia).  Zheng, who was ranked No. 3 in the preseason newcomer rankings, bested Walker in three sets.  The two made for a thrilling back and forth battle that was anyone's match until the final points.

Overall, the Crimson had a successful weekend beginning with 11 of the 32 singles qualifiers being from Harvard.  The Crimson had two quarterfinalists in the singles bracket in Walker and first-year Marc Ktiri as well as the duo of Walker and Henry von der Schulenburg reaching the semis in the doubles bracket.

Rueb said, "What a great weekend for college tennis.  It was an amazing experience to be able to host the Super Regionals at Harvard.  The quality of tennis was off the charts, and we got so many high-level matches over the weekend."
