Game Recap: Men's Ice Hockey |

Coronato's Third Period Goals Help No. 13/14 Men's Ice Hockey Rally For 4-2 Win Over Princeton

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Sophomore forward Matthew Coronato scored twice in the third period to help No. 13/14 Harvard men's ice hockey (2-0-0, 2-0-0 ECACH) rally from a one goal deficit for a 4-2 win over Princeton (0-1-0, 0-1-0 ECACH) at Bright-Landry Hockey Center. First-year forward Joe Miller had a goal and two assists, Zakary Karpa scored for the second consecutive night, and junior Derek Mullahy made 19 saves to earn the win in net.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Harvard got off to a better start than in its opener, scoring a power play goal thanks to a little puck luck. Sophomore Ian Moore's shot from the left point was altered by a broken stick – but the puck went right to Karpa, who redirected it into the net at 13:59 of the opening period to give Harvard a 1-0 lead.

Princeton responded early in the second period on a broken play, as Brendan Gorman took the puck through the neutral zone, skated through Harvard's forward group and fired a shot past Mullahy at 6:33 to tie the game.

Mullahy made his best save of the night late in the second period, pushing off the right post to stop a Princeton wrap around attempt with just over two minutes to play in the frame.

Early in the third period, Princeton took its first lead of the game, as Jack Cronin's power play goal at 1:53 made it 2-1 Tigers.

But Harvard responded with its second goal on the man advantage, with Joe Miller putting in his own rebound for his first collegiate goal at 5:10.

Then it was Coronato's turn to give Harvard the lead once again. A defensive zone turnover forced by Miller led to a 2-on-1 down low, with Farrell feeding Coronato for a one-timer in front to give Harvard the lead at 8:24.

Coronato would seal the win with a breakaway goal at 18:55 to put Harvard up 4-2 and help the Crimson earn an opening weekend sweep.
