CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Crimson pushed the defending Ivy League champion Bears in the first set, but Harvard University women's volleyball dropped a 3-0 (25-22, 25-12, 25-18) decision to Brown University on Saturday evening at the Malkin Athletic Center.
On a night when the Crimson (2-11, 1-4 Ivy) hosted its Title IX Celebration Game alongside a postgame clinic, the hosts took a 15-11 lead in set one and tied the score at 21-21 late in the set before the Bears (8-6, 4-1 Ivy) took four of the last five points to win the opening frame, 25-22. In set two, Harvard kept within 13-10 prior to Brown closing the stanza on a 12-2 run to capture the set, 25-12. In set three, the Crimson cut its deficit to 15-11 but could pull no closer than four points the rest of the way as Brown closed the match with a 25-18 decision in the set.
As part of
Harvard Athletics' year-long celebration of the 50th Anniversary of Title IX, the Crimson provided Title IX themed giveaways as a part of the team's Title IX Celebration Game. Following the contest, Harvard student-athletes and coaches conducted a postgame clinic for youth attending the match.
Harvard Highlights
- Junior Katie Vorhies totaled a team-high 9.5 points on team bests in kills (eight) on a .318 hitting percentage and blocks (three). She notched her eight kills on 22 attempts with just one error.
- Sophomore Rocky Aguirre dished out a team-high 15 assists. She tallied double-figure assists for the 11th time this season.
- Senior Bella Almanza compiled 11 assists and five kills. She has posetd double-figure assists in all 13 matches this year.
- Sophomore Lindsey Zhang registered a team-best six digs.
- Harvard posted a .308 hitting percentage in the first set, landing 10 kills on 26 attempts with just two errors.
