Women's Hockey Suffers Setback at No. 11/11 Clarkson

POTSDAM, N.Y. – The Crimson skated hard tonight, controlling the flow of the game for a majority of the contest, but it was unable to knock off the No. 11/11 Clarkson Golden Knights, who walked away with a 5-1 win.
 
Harvard's (3-8-2, 2-5-2 ECACH) Anne Bloomer netted a goal in her first game back on the ice, in front a solid effort from the defense in the setback.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Crimson brought the pressure early, nearly scoring on a powerplay chance in the opening minutes of action. Clarkson was charged with two minor penalties in the first five minutes of the contest, but the Crimson were kept at bay after three shots on goal.
  • Harvard dominated in the first 10 minutes of the contest, putting five shots on net while controlling the puck in the Golden knight zone for a majority of the first half of the frame.
  • Starting goaltender, Alex Pellicci didn't have to make a save until 13:18 into the period.
  • Clarkson managed to sneak two goals past Pellicci, taking a 2-0 lead into the first intermission.
  • The Crimson kept its foot on the gas in the second, putting 15 shots on target. Clarkson's goalkeeper was up to the task, saving all shots faced in the frame.
  • Harvard's PK unit continued its successful run, stopping all three Clarkson attempts in the frame.
  • The Crimson led in shots at the end of the second, 23-19, and Alex Pellicci was up to 16 saves.
  • Clarkson added another pair of goals in the third period, boosting its lead to 5-0.
  • After Harvard and Clarkson traded penalties late in the third period, Anne Bloomer and Kristin Della Rovere connected to net Harvard's first goal of the game.
  • Despite outshooting the Golden Knights 31-29, the Crimson would drop the first game of the weekend, 5-1, to Clarkson

  • In her first game back from injury, Anne Bloomer scored her seventh goal of the season
  • Kristin Della Rovere and Eleanor Winges added the helpers on Bloomer's 4-on-4 strike
  • Harvard outshot the Golden Knights, 31-29 in the contest

  • Harvard killed off all three penalties it faced in the second period
  • The Crimson extended its penalty-kill streak to ten with four successful stops tonight
  • Della Rovere extended her double-digit faceoff win streak to 12 games with another 19 wins tonight
  • Shannon Hollands won a season-high 13 faceoffs in the effort
  • Mia Biotti blocked a team-high three shots in a 15-block effort from the Crimson 

UP NEXT

The Crimson will be back on the ice tomorrow afternoon to face off against the St. Lawrence Saints. Harvard and St. Lawrence will drop the puck at 3 PM (ESPN+) in Canton, N.Y.
