Women's Water Polo

No. 22 Women's Water Polo to Play Four at Princeton Invitational

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – No. 22 Harvard women's water polo will travel to Princeton, N.J., this weekend, Feb. 12-13, to play four games as part of the Princeton Invitational. The Crimson takes on Villanova at 1:30 p.m. and St. Francis Brooklyn at 5:15 p.m. on Saturday, before matchups with No. 17 LIU and VMI on Sunday at 10:30 a.m. and 1:00 p.m., respectively.

What to Know
  • Harvard comes in at No. 22 in the weekly CWPA National Rankings, released on February 9th. LIU holds a ranking of No. 17 after posting wins over Indiana and Brown.
  • Sophomore Brooke Hourigan netted eight goals across the four games at the Bruno Classic this past weekend. Hourigan earned COOP Student-Athlete of the Week for her performance.
  • First-year Erin Kim has posted a trio of three-goal efforts through her first six games. Kim hit the mark against Villanova (Jan. 29), Wagner (Feb. 5), and Pomona-Pitzer (Feb. 6).
  • Junior goalie Zoe Banks made 22 saves in her two starts at the Bruno Classic, allowing just 16 goals.
  • Junior Grace Thawley scored a team-high four goals in the win over Pomona-Pitzer on Feb. 6 and followed up that performance with a hat-trick against La Salle, later that day.
  • The Crimson picked up a pair of road victories against Villanova to begin the season, topping the Wildcats 20-11 and 16-4.
  • Harvard won both of its two meetings with LIU and St. Francis Brooklyn in the 2020 season.
At the Helm
Ted Minnis enters his 12th year as The Friends of Harvard Water Polo Head Coach in 2021-22. Minnis has led the women's program to new heights, including a program-record 24 wins in 2016.  He holds an overall record of 181-130 (.582) with the women's team through 11+ seasons.
 
What's Next?
Harvard will enjoy a weekend off before opening CWPA conference play on Saturday, Feb. 26, with a 9:00 a.m. matchup at Saint Francis (PA). The Crimson will then play a neutral site game against Mount Saint Mary's later that day at 4:30 p.m., hosted by Bucknell University. Harvard will round out the weekend with a 10:30 a.m. contest on Sunday, Feb. 27 at Bucknell against the Bison.
