Game Recap: Men's Ice Hockey |

Men's Ice Hockey Shuts Down Yale, 2-0; Laferriere Named Tim Taylor Award Winner as MVP

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Sophomore forward Alex Laferriere had a goal and an assist, and junior goaltender Mitchell Gibson made all 15 saves to help Harvard men's ice hockey (13-8-2, 10-5-2 ECAC Hockey) earn a 2-0 shutout win over Yale (5-16-1, 4-11-1 ECAC Hockey) at Bright-Landry Hockey Center.

Junior forward John Farinacci added a goal, as Harvard recorded its first shutout of the season.

Laferriere earned the Tim Taylor Award as Most Valuable Player of the Harvard-Yale game played at Harvard. Taylor captained the 1963 Harvard squad that won the ECAC Championship and served as Yale head coach from 1978 to 2006.

In a dominant first period, Harvard outshot Yale 15-2 but had nothing to show for it.

That changed midway through the second period, as Farinacci jammed in a rebound on a net-front scramble at 8:02 to give Harvard the lead.

Gibson came up with his biggest stop of the night in the last 10 minutes of the third period. He kicked out his right pad to make a stop on a one-timer off the stick of William Dineen with just over 8:00 to play.

Laferriere sealed the win on a play set up by first-year defenseman Ian Moore. Moore gloved a Yale clearing attempt at the blueline, feeding the puck to Laferriere, who walked in off the left wall and fired a wrist shot past Yale goaltender Nathan Reid (36 saves) to give the Crimson a 2-0 lead.
