CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Despite an early lead, No. 6/6 Harvard (19-7-0, 14-5-0 ECACH) found itself on the short end of a 2-1 score line against No. 9/9 Quinnipiac (21-7-3, 13-6-0) on Senior Day at Bright Landry Hockey Center on Saturday (Feb. 12).
Becca Gilmore scored a first period goal, but the Crimson was unable to generate any further offense.
Lindsay Reed made 35 saves in net for Harvard on 37 shots faced.
Just 4:41 into the game,
Mia Biotti started a Harvard rush with a pass to
Kristin Della Rovere in the defensive zone. Della Rovere then sent the puck up ice to Gilmore, who carried it across the blue line on her backhand side before cutting toward the goal mouth and slipping a shot past Quinnipiac's Corinne Schroeder to put the Crimson in front, 1-0. Harvard would carry that lead into the first intermission, in large part thanks to a five-on-three penalty kill midway through the period.
Back on the kill 5:02 into the second period after a tripping call on Gilmore, Harvard was unable to fend off the Bobcats' power-play this time around. Sophomore Maddy Samoskevich was the beneficiary of some quality puck movement, scoring her third goal of the year with a snap-shot from the right circle. Quinnipiac continued to put pressure on the Harvard defense, but the second period came to close without any further goals.
The Bobcats' struck quickly in the final frame as Olivia Mobley picked up her 12th of the year just 29 seconds in to give the visitors' their first lead of the day. None of Harvard's eight shots on goal in the third period got past Schroeder in net, even after the Crimson pulled the goaltender with 1:16 remaining in the game for the extra-attacker.
