Women's Water Polo

No. 22 Women's Water Polo Set to Host Four Games as Part of Bruno Classic

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – No. 22 Harvard women's water polo will return to Blodgett Pool for the first time this season, hosting four games as part of the Bruno Classic on Feb. 5-6. The Crimson will take on No. 14 Wagner at 10:00 a.m. and No. 24 Cal Baptist at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, before matchups with Pomona-Pitzer (9:00 a.m.) and RV La Salle (3:00 p.m.) on Sunday. What to Know
  • Harvard comes in at No. 22 in the weekly CWPA National Rankings. Wagner is ranked a few spots ahead at No. 14, while Cal Baptist comes in at No. 24 in the nation, and La Salle received votes.
  • The Crimson began its season with a pair of wins over Villanova on Saturday, Jan. 22. Harvard topped the Wildcats 20-11 in its season-opener before a 16-4 victory in game two.
  • Junior Grace Thawley netted six goals in the season-opening win to lead the Crimson. First-year Dany Zapata made her collegiate debut, scoring three goals.
  • Junior Evan Tingler scored a hat-trick to go along with two assists and three steals in the game two victory. Junior goalie Zoe Banks stopped six shots to hold the Wildcats to four goals.
  • Harvard started the 2020 season with a 5-0 record before falling to Wagner College. The Crimson went on to take the season series over the Seahawks, 2-1.
  • The Crimson holds a three-game winning streak against Cal Baptist, most recently beating the Lancers in their first ever trip to Cambridge, with a 14-13 win on Mar. 2, 2019.
At the Helm
Ted Minnis enters his 12th year as The Friends of Harvard Water Polo Head Coach in 2021-22. Minnis has led the women's program to new heights, including a program-record 24 wins in 2016.  He holds an overall record of 178-129 (.580) with the women's team through 11+ seasons.
 
What's Next?
Harvard will travel to Princeton, N.J., next weekend, Feb. 12-13, to compete in the Princeton Invitational. The Crimson opens with contests against Villanova (1:30 p.m.) and St. Francis Brooklyn (5:15 p.m.) on Saturday, before a doubleheader with No. 17 LIU and VMI on Sunday, with the latter two matchups set for 10:30 a.m. and 1:00 p.m.
