Matthew Coronato scored his third goal in as many games to lead Harvard men's ice hockey (12-7-2, 9-5-2 ECAC Hockey) to a 3-1 win over Dartmouth (3-15-3, 2-11-2 ECAC Hockey) on Friday night (Feb. 4) at Bright-Landry Hockey Center.
Junior defenseman
Henry Thrun added two assists, and junior goaltender
Mitchell Gibson made 13 saves to help Harvard move its unbeaten streak to four games (3-0-1) heading into the 69
th Beanpot on Monday night.
After a quiet first period for both teams, with Harvard's best chance coming on a partial breakaway for Laferriere midway through the frame, the Crimson struck for two quick goals to start the second period.
At 2:19 of the middle frame, a faceoff win and a shot from the point from first-year defenseman
Jack Bar went off the leg of Donato and past Dartmouth goaltender Clay Stevenson (31 saves) to give Harvard a 1-0 lead.
Just over two minutes later, the Crimson converted on the power play, scoring on the man advantage for a fourth consecutive game.
Junior defenseman
Ryan Siedem's shot from the point was redirected high into the net by Coronato for his ninth goal of the year at 4:47, giving Harvard a two-goal lead.
Dartmouth responded at the tail-end of a two-minute 5-on-3 minutes later, as Ian Pierce scored to cut the Crimson lead in half.
But Harvard held Dartmouth to just four shots in the third period, and junior forward
Austin Wong sealed the win with an empty net goal at 19:55.
