FRESNO, Calif. – Sophomore shortstop
Jake Berger hit his first career home run, the Crimson bullpen allowed just one hit over 3.0 innings, and Harvard University baseball beat Fresno State, 8-2, on Tuesday night at Bob Bennett Stadium.
Competing in its first mid-week game of the season, the Crimson (7-5) opened the game with a 7-0 lead over the host Bulldogs (7-10) as Harvard won its third straight contest during its 10-day, eight-game road trip to the state of California.
Berger totaled two hits, two RBIs, and two runs alongside his homer as four Crimson student-athletes posted multiple hits in the game. Junior first baseman

Harvard opened the game with three runs in the top of the first, including RBI singles from Bravo and sophomore
Chris Snopek. The Crimson tallied another three runs in the third with another RBI single from Bravo and a two-run homer from Berger. Rounds made the score 7-0 with an RBI single in the fourth. After Fresno State plated two runs in the bottom of the fourth, Harvard closed the scoring in the ninth with an RBI single from Cooper.

- Junior Logan Bravo went 2-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs. He posted his fifth multi-hit game of the season and extended his heating streak to four games.
- Sophomore Jake Berger finished 2-for-4 with his first collegiate home run, two RBIs, and two runs. He reached base safely for the seventh straight game.
- Sophomore Ben Rounds posted a 2-for-4 effort with two runs, an RBI, and a double.
- First-year George Cooper tallied two hits, an RBI, a run, and a double. He notched his fourth multi-hit game of the year and pushed his hitting streak to four games.
- First-year Chris Snopek registered a hit and an RBI for his fourth mult-hit game of the year and fourth straight game with a hit.
- Junior right-handed pitcher Will Jacobsen earned the win in the start, throwing 6.0 innings and permitting two runs on five hits and one walk with two strikeouts.
- Sophomore right-hander Porter Jordheim struck out the side in one inning of work in the seventh before first-year right-hander Tanner Smith did not allow a hit in the eighth, and sophomore right-hander Chris Clark threw a scoreless ninth.
- Smith did not allow a run for his second consecutive outing. Clark has not permitted a run in four of his five appearances on the year.
Game Notes
- Harvard's pitching staff recorded seven strikeouts to three walks in the game.
- With 10 hits, the Crimson tallied double-figure hits for the fourth straight game.
- Through five games of the team's California trip, junior Logan Bravo leads the club with a .421 batting average (8-for-19) with four RBIs and three doubles. Sophomore Chris Snopek has hit .400 (8-for-20) on the trip.
- Harvard improved to 1-0 all-time vs. Fresno State.
