LOS ANGELES – Harvard wrapped up its west coast road trip with a pair of losses at LMU on Tuesday afternoon at Smith Field. The Crimson came up short, 10-0, in the first game and 10-2 in the second. Both contests went five innings.
Â
In the opener, Harvard (6-10) struggled to get its offense going at the plate and found itself in a six-run hole after one inning. After a fruitless second inning, the Crimson gave up another four runs to dig itself a 10-0 hole, a margin that held for the final three frames.
Â
After a brief intermission to reset, Harvard wasted no time in Game No. 2, as
Morgan Melito led off with a single through the left side.
Kaitlin Lampson followed with a single of her own and
Allison Heffley moved the runners over with a sacrifice bunt. Next up came
Kendall Jean, who doubled the left-field line, scoring Melito and Lampson, pushing the visitors to a 2-0 lead.
Â
Katie Arrambide sent the Lions down in order in the first inning and got through the second unscathed despite a leadoff double. The first-year ran into a bit of trouble in the third, allowing the tying runs, but induced a pop-up to shortstop to limit the damage.
Â
Harvard, which could not cash in a Heffley triple in the third inning, went down in order in the fourth and later gave up a two-out RBI single in the bottom half of the inning as LMU (21-10) moved ahead by a run. The fifth is when things went sideways as three straight singles plated two runners with the Lions adding five additional runs to provide the final margin.
