Women's Water Polo

No. 20 Women's Water Polo Set to Host Harvard Invitational

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – No. 20 Harvard women's water polo (12-1, 3-0 CWPA) will host the Harvard Invitational this weekend, Mar. 5-6, as 15 games will take place at Blodgett Pool across the weekend, featuring four contests for the Crimson. All 15 games will be broadcast live on ESPN+.
 
Harvard begins on Saturday against No. 14 Indiana (7-8, 0-1 MPSF) at 11:30 a.m. before a conference matchup with No. 23 Brown (11-6, 2-1 CWPA) at 5:00 p.m. The Sunday slate for the Crimson features Mt. Saint Mary's (4-13, 0-4 CWPA) at 10:30 a.m. and RV Cal St. East Bay (6-5, 0-0 WWPA) at 2:15 p.m.

What to Know
  • The Crimson is currently riding a 10-game winning streak after posting wins over Saint Francis (PA), Mt. Saint Mary's and No. 25 Bucknell this past weekend to open CWPA conference play.
  • Harvard comes in at No. 20 in the CWPA National Rankings released on Mar. 2. Five of the eight programs attending the Invite also boast a national ranking, including No. 14 Indiana, No. 15 Wagner, No. 22 LIU, No. 23 Brown and No. 24 Marist, while Cal St. East Bay received votes.
  • Harvard is coming off an 8-7 overtime win at No. 25 Bucknell this past Sunday. Junior Jaiden Miller netted the lone goal in overtime to propel the Crimson to victory.
  • Junior goalie Zoe Banks recorded her second career shutout in the 18-0 win over Mt. Saint Mary's this past weekend. Banks is responsible for the only two shutouts in varsity program history and won all three of her starts across the weekend.
  • Junior Borden Wahl piled in five goals while adding five assists across Harvard's first three CWPA contests. Senior Inde Halligan also netted five goals while collecting five steals.
  • Harvard matched up with Cal St. East Bay for its final game of the shortened 2020 season. Also a Harvard Invitational matchup at Blodgett Pool, the Crimson prevailed, 16-15.
At the Helm
Ted Minnis enters his 12th year as The Friends of Harvard Water Polo Head Coach in 2021-22. Minnis has led the women's program to new heights, including a program-record 24 wins in 2016.  He holds an overall record of 188-130 (.591) with the women's team through 11+ seasons.
 
What's Next?
Harvard will head to the west coast for the first time this season to compete in the ASU Invitational II, hosted by Arizona State University. The Crimson will matchup with No. 10 Arizona State at 9:15 a.m. MT on Saturday, Mar. 12, before a tilt with Azusa Pacific at 2:30 p.m. MT. The Crimson will return to Mona Plummer Aquatic Center on Sunday, Mar. 13, to take on No. 24 Marist at 10:00 a.m. MT.
