NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Harvard's late-game rally fell short as it was edged by Yale, 4-3, Sunday afternoon at 5K Corral Field at Dewitt Family Stadium. Despite the loss, the Crimson won the series vs. the Bulldogs (3-10; 1-2 Ivy League) and saw its record drop to 8-11 (2-1 Ivy).
Â
Harvard fell behind, 2-0, in the first inning with Yale adding to its lead with single runs in the third and fourth frames.
Â
The Crimson eventually got on the scoreboard in the top of the fifth when
Teagan Shaw took a Maddie Latta offering over the left-field wall. The solo shot was Shaw's team-best third home run of 2022.
Â
After
Anna Reed kept the Bulldogs from scoring in the bottom of the frame, the Harvard offense continued its momentum when
Lauren Bobowski delivered a one-out single and stole second.
Morgan Melito followed with a single of her own and took second on the throw to third base. The good vibes carried into
Madi Mays' at-bat as she hit an RBI sacrifice fly to right, leading to
Allison Heffley's RBI single to get the visitors to within one at 4-3. A subsequent Yale pitching change eventually ended the Harvard threat.
Â
Reed put up another zero in the bottom of the sixth, keeping Harvard within striking distance leading into its final at-bat. The Bulldogs, however, got two pop-outs and a strikeout to end the Crimson's comeback.
