PHOENIX – Harvard completed play at the PING/ASU Invitational on Sunday, capping the 54-hole, three-day event in 16th place among some of the top women's golf programs in the country.
The Crimson totaled 62-over-par as a team with rounds of 312-307-307 at Papago Golf Course. Host Arizona St. captured the victory at 25-under, topping an elite field which included five teams ranked inside the top-10 of Golfstat's national rankings.
Harvard sophomore
Meiyi Yan led Crimson individuals, finishing 13-over par on the weekend and in a tie for 62nd. Classmate
Isabella Gomez was next, placing T70 at 16-over, followed closely by
Chloe Royston (T73, +17),
Catie Schernecker (T75, +18) and
Anina Ku (83, +25).
The tournament marked the first stroke-play event for the Crimson this spring.
Harvard Highlights
- Harvard finished with 20 birdies as a team in the tournament. Isabella Gomez and Catie Schernecker tallied five apiece to lead the team.
- The Crimson came in tied for 12th in the field with a 3.33 par-3 scoring average.
- First-year Catie Schernecker shot a final round 74 (+2), the lowest score of the week by a Harvard player.
- Yan, Gomez and Royston were counting scores in all three rounds for the Crimson.
Tournament Notes
- The tournament field included a total of five teams ranked inside Golfstat's top-10 and 11 teams inside the top-45.
- Arizona State's Alexandra Forsterling claimed medalist honors by shooting 9-under par for the tournament.
- The field posted a cumulative scoring average of 74.16 (+2.16) on the weekend.
- 84 individuals participated in the event.
- Papago Golf Course played at 6,426 yards as a par 72.
