CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Harvard University baseball dropped a pair of contests to the University of Pennsylvania, including the resumption of a halted game from Saturday, 27-6 and 6-2, on Sunday afternoon at O'Donnell Field.
Playing the first two games of an originally scheduled three-game series, the Crimson (13-12, 5-3 Ivy) and Quakers (19-8, 6-2 Ivy) stood tied at 1-1 through five innings in game two before the visitors captured the contest after taking the first game, which carried over from Saturday after the matchup was halted in the top of the fifth inning.

Will Jacobsen each hit a home run. In game two, senior right-hander
Jaren Zinn threw 5.0 innings, allowing one run on three hits with eight strikeouts in the start.
In game two, Jacobsen hit a solo home run to straightaway center field to tie the game at 1-1 in the bottom of the second. After Zinn kept the Quakers scoreless over the next three frames, Penn scored two runs in each of the sixth and seventh innings to gain a 5-1 lead. After Penn scored once more in the top of the ninth, Cooper drove in a run with a single down the right field line in the bottom of the ninth to close the game's scoring.
In game one, the Quakers took a 17-1 lead in the top of the fourth prior to a two-run home run from Brown in the bottom of the fourth. Sophomore
Ben Rounds hit a two-run single in the seventh, and sophomore
Peter Messervy notched an RBI double in the eighth. Penn plated 10 runs between the eighth and ninth frames.
Harvard Highlights: Game 1
- Junior catcher Zach Brown finished 2-for-3 with a home run, two RBIs, and two runs scored. Brown hit his second home run of the season.
- Sophomore center fielder Peter Messervy posted a 3-for-4 effort with a double, RBI, and run scored. He tallied his fifth multi-hit game of the year.
- First-year second baseman George Cooper went 2-for-3 with a run scored. He notched his eighth multi-hit game of the year.
- Junior first baseman Logan Bravo drove in a run, and sophomore shortstop Jake Berger scored a run.
- The Crimson totaled 10 hits in the game, compiling double-digit hits for the sixth time in Ivy League play and for the 12th time overall on the season.
Harvard Highlights: Game 2
- First-year second baseman George Cooper went 2-for-5 with a double and an RBI. He posted his ninth multi-hit game of the year.
- Junior third baseman Will Jacobsen hit his first home run of the season with a solo shot to straightaway center field.
- In the start, senior right-handed pitcher Jaren Zinn threw 5.0 innings, allowing one run on three hits with eight strikeouts against three walks. He has tallied eight or more strikeouts in all three of his Ivy League starts this year and posted eight or more strikeouts in four games overall this year.
- Sophomore left fielder Chris Snopek, junior catcher Zach Brown, and first-year designated hitter Peter Levin each posted a hit.
- Sophomore shortstop Jake Berger worked two walks.
Game Notes
- For the season, senior right-handed pitcher Jaren Zinn has totaled 49 strikeouts over 29.2 innings. In Ivy play, he has tallied 26 strikeouts over 14.2 innings.
- Four Crimson student-athletes extended reached base safely streaks into double figures, including sophomore Jake Berger (20), sophomore Ben Rounds (16), junior Logan Bravo (14), and sophomore Chris Snopek (10).
- On Sunday, play began with Saturday's halted game which was stopped with two outs in the top of the fifth inning due to weather.
- Game three of the series has been postponed to a later date.
- With the results, Penn moved into second place in the conference standings while Harvard moved into third place in the league. Columbia (7-2 Ivy) leads the league.
- The Crimson played in games five and six of a home-opening seven-game homestand after playing its first 19 contests away from home.
- Harvard moved to 117-75-1 all-time vs. Penn.
