CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – With NEISA Coed Team Race Championship on the line, Harvard sailed its way to a runner-up result at the Fowle Trophy this Saturday and Sunday (April 9-10) at a breezy Harvard Sailing Club.
Serving as regatta hosts, the Crimson totaled a record of 11-5 to finish behind only Yale among 12 competing schools. While the Bulldogs secured the lone automatic bid available to the ICSA Team Race Championship, Harvard's performance this weekend means a selection to the National Championship event, scheduled for May 16-18, is likely.
Racing was limited by weather on Saturday in Cambridge, forcing an unfinished round one to resume on day two. When the round robin finally reached its conclusion, Harvard's 8-3 record ensured its berth in the final six.
In the ensuing final, the Crimson went 3-2 with wins over Dartmouth, Yale and Tufts. A tie for second place between Harvard and the Big Green was eventually broken after a win by the Crimson in the sailoff.
Although Yale finished atop the podium with a 12-4 overall record, the Crimson managed to defeat the Bulldogs in each of the head-to-head races between the Ivy League rivals.
