Radcliffe Heavyweight Rowing Readies for Saratoga Invitational

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Harvard-Radcliffe Heavyweight Women's Rowing team is set to return to action this weekend at the Saratoga Invitational where it will face off against No. 6 Princeton, Cornell, No. 14 Syracuse and Bucknell on Fish Creek. The Radcliffe heavyweights will make the trek down I-90 to Saratoga Springs for a full day of racing this Saturday, Apr. 9.
 
Radcliffe will battle for the Elizabeth H. O'Leary Cup against Syracuse and the Class of 1975 Cups in the race against Princeton and Cornell.
 
The Black and White have raced on Fish Creek once before during a dual at Syracuse with Dartmouth in 2017. Radcliffe finished second in that race, defeating Dartmouth while falling to Syracuse in the O'Leary Cup.

WHAT TO KNOW
  • This will be the 48th meeting all-time between Radcliffe and Princeton and the Black and White are seeking it's first victory over the Tigers since the 2013 season
  • Harvard-Radcliffe leads the all-time series with Cornell, 37-6, and have won the past five races
  • The Black and White own a 28-2 dual record against Syracuse and have won 13 consecutive races against the Orange
  • Radcliffe and Bucknell have raced only once before, a Black and White win in 2009
  • In the 22-year history of the O'Leary Cup, Radcliffe has claimed 10 of a potential 16 titles
  • Radcliffe last hoisted the 1975 Cup in 2013

AT THE HELM
Liz O'Leary, The Friends of Radcliffe Rowing Head Coach for Women's Heavyweight Crew, enters her 36th season as the leader of the Radcliffe Heavyweights. O'Leary has brought the Black and White to the pinnacle of women's collegiate rowing and made Radcliffe a perennial contender for national championships since joining the program in 1986. The team has enjoyed success under O'Leary and has continued throughout her tenure with over 200 dual wins, top-finishing crews at Sprints, and appearances at national championships.
 
UP NEXT
The Black and White will rest next weekend while preparing for the team's next race against Yale and Northeastern on Apr. 23. The races are set to take place on the Housatonic River in Derby, Conn. throughout the morning.
