CAIRO – Former Harvard squash standout Ali Farag '14 captured his second consecutive World Championship this past weekend, claiming the men's title with 3-2, come-from-behind victory over the No. 3 seed, Mohamed ElShorbagy in Sunday's final.
On his path to the title, Farag, currently ranked No. 2 in the PSA World Rankings, outscored his opponents 18-4 while knocking off a total of three seeded players.
The victory was the third Word Championship of Farag's professional career with his previous wins coming in 2018-19 and 2020-21.
During his time at Harvard, Farag won two CSA individual national titles and helped the Crimson win the 2014 CSA men's team championship. He was a three-time First-Team All-American and a recipient of the Skillman Award in 2014.
Farag was one of six former Crimson to partake in the event, which was played at the Club S Allegria and the National Museum of Egyptian Civilisation.
Victor Crouin '22 reached the Round of 32 on the men's side, while Amanda Sobhy '15 (Semifinals), Sabrina Sobhy '19 (Round of 16), Gina Kennedy '20 (Round of 16) and Haley Mendez '15 (First round) were all participants in the women's draw.
