WEST WINDSOR, N.J. – The Radcliffe Lightweight Rowing team performed well in their first action of the IRA National Championships on Mercer Lake this morning, placing in the top two in two events on the morning. The lightweight four boat took first place in its heat, while the lightweight double took second place to advance to the grand final tomorrow. The varsity eight boat took fifth in its heat and will now move on to compete in the grand final tomorrow.
The doubles boat, stroked by
Calliste Skouras kicked things off for Radcliffe with a second place finish. Skouras and her boatmate,
Clara Duffy, were narrowly defeated by just over a second by BU in the first race of the day. The duo will get another chance at the Terriers tomorrow in the grand final.
With a time of 7:32.455 the Radcliffe lightweight four boat, coxed by
Katie Rotenberg, claimed victory in the crew's heat. The Black and White outpaced the second-place boat by more than five seconds to claim the victory. The boat will now move on to row in the grand final.
The varsity eight boat was the last Radcliffe boat to row on Mercer Lake on the first day of competition as the crew took fifth place in its heat. The crew will get a crack at redemption tomorrow morning in the grand final.
