CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Harvard University women's soccer junior forward
Cayla McFarlane has earned a spot on the Trinidad and Tobago Senior Women's National Team for the 2022 CONCACAF Women's Championship in Mexico, the Trinidad and Tobago Football Association announced on Friday.
T&T is set to play in Group B at the tournament, facing Canada on July 5 at 10:00 p.m., Costa Rica on July 8 at 7:00 p.m., and Panama on July 11 at 7:00 p.m. during the group stage. The knockout stage will feature semifinals on July 14 prior to the first and third-place matches on July 18.
The 2022 CONCACAF Women's Championship will serve as the CONCACAF qualifiers to the 2023 FIFA Women's World Cup in Australia and New Zealand, as well as for the tournament at the 2024 Summer Olympics in France. The top two teams of each group will qualify for the World Cup, while the third-placed teams from each group will advance to the inter-confederation playoffs.
Earlier this year, McFarlane helped T&T win its group in World Cup qualifying and advance to the finals of the CONCACAF Women's Championship. McFarlane played in all four matches with three starts for T&T in this spring's CONCACAF World Cup qualifying competition as the team tallied three wins and one draw to finish atop Group F with 10 points.
In February, McFarlane made a pair of starts for T&T as the team topped both Nicaragua (2-1) and Dominica (2-0). She then came on as a sub in the team's 13-0 win over Turks and Caicos on Apr. 9 prior to starting in the team's 2-2 draw with Guyana on Apr. 12. McFarlane has now totaled seven caps playing for Trinidad and Tobago.
McFarlane has previously competed for Trinidad and Tobago's senior national team and earned three caps while competing in the 2020 CONCACAF Olympic qualifying competition. This past season for Harvard, McFarlane played in eight games, including six of the team's seven Ivy League contests.
