Women’s Soccer Travels to CCSU to Open Up 2022 Season

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Harvard women's soccer team (0-0, 0-0 Ivy) is set to open its 2022 schedule of games with a road trip to Central Connecticut State (1-1, 0-0 NEC) for a clash with the Blue Devills tomorrow, August 26, in New Britain, Conn at 6 PM. The Crimson will travel to New Britain with an experienced roster full of talent that has been retooled with five first-year players.

WHAT TO KNOW

  • Harvard women's soccer is coming off its 17th appearance at the NCAA Tournament after a 12-3-1 (5-2 Ivy) record in 2021
  • The Crimson will welcome back a talented roster that accounted for 90-percent of its points, 88-percent of its goals and 80-percent of its minutes in 2021
  • Jordan Di Verniero and Ava Lung will captain the Crimson this season
  • The Crimson hold a 10-2-1 record all-time against the Blue Devils, including a 3-0 in 2021
  • Harvard 2021 leading scorer, Angela Caloia, will return to the pitch after scoring a team-high 10 goals and notching 22 points. Caloia''s 10 goals was second-best in the Ivy League. Caloia scored twice when the two sides met last season
  • Hannah Bebar will also return to Cambridge after a stellar rookie season with the Crimson. In her first-year season, Bebar led the team with 10 assists, which was also the most in the Ivy League and the fifth-most in the nation
  • Bebar finished the season ranked as the seventh-best first-year in the country by Top Drawer Soccer (TDS). The Illinois native also earned Third-Team All-America honors while also being selected as the Ivy League's Rookie of the Year
  • Jade Rose also made the list, coming in at No. 9, after playing 1,309 minutes and scoring two goals on the year. Rose was a key defender for the Crimson throughout the season as she logged the second most minutes on the pitch amongst her teammates
  • Rose was also honored as the Canada Youth Soccer Player of the Year in 2021
  • Hannah Gardner will return for her senior season and will look to repeat her outstanding effort between the posts in 2021. Gardner's GAA of 0.49 would have been the best in the nation if she had logged just 180 more minutes in order to meet the minimum percentage of team minutes played (.667)
  • Harvard welcomed five new faces to its program this season. The Crimson's Class of 2026 includes forward Audrey Francois (Laval, Quebec), midfielder Vanessa Frelih (Pickering, Ontario), defender August Hunter (Seattle, Wash.), goalkeeper Rhiannon Stewart (London, England), and goalkeeper Denver Tolson (Duluth, Ga.)
