Softball Blog: Marissa Zheng Shares her Summer Experience in Washington D.C.

Hear from senior infielder Marissa Zheng on how she spent her Summer working a healthcare consulting internship in the nation's capital:

I spent most of my summer in Washington, D.C. doing a ten-week healthcare consulting internship. It was a great opportunity to get exposure to the consulting world while working alongside great people in a city that I ended up loving. After onboarding training during the first week, all of the interns were placed on project teams, and we all worked on one to two projects throughout the summer. The project I was on was really interesting. We did some product profile testing for a potential therapy that the client was thinking about developing, which basically means that we did a lot of background research and interviewed many physicians to determine which profile of attributes for this product is most desired and would give it the best chance at success. There was definitely a steep learning curve to understanding the business strategy side and figuring out how to think like a consultant rather than a student, but all of my coworkers and managers were always ready to help answer any questions I had.

Outside of our projects, our firm hosted a lot of social events, including our Summer outing to a Spanish tapas restaurant. On the weekends, my fellow interns and I had a lot of fun exploring the city. We had brunch at a new place almost every weekend, walked all of the monuments, and went to as many museums as we could. We even took an Uber to Virginia to see Cirque du Soleil while they were in town. I also got a visit from one of my Harvard Softball teammates, Lindsay! We had a weekend full of every tourist attraction imaginable, with the best parts definitely being the Spy Museum and Krispy Kreme donuts.

After my internship, I went home to Colorado to spend time with my family, go on some beautiful hikes, and get ready for the upcoming school year and season!
