th-ranked Harvard (3-2) past the Hawks (2-4) on Friday night (Sept. 16) at Berylson Field.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Crimson piled up scoring chances and penalty corners as the game progressed, holding a 28-3 advantage in shots attempted, and a 14-0 margin on penalty corners.
On a Harvard penalty corner late in the first quarter, junior
Siofra Murdoch had one of the Crimson's best early scoring chances, as her penalty corner shot was swept away by Monmouth goalkeeper Phileine Hazen (nine saves).
Midway through the second quarter, Harvard goalkeeper
Ellie Shahbo (three saves) was up to the task on one of Monmouth's only scoring chances of the game, coming off her line to kick away a shot by Katie Yoder.
In the second half, sophomore
Emily Guckian had her reverse stick shot from 10 yards out blockered away by Hazen with just over five minutes left in the third quarter.
A run of Harvard penalty corners started in the fourth quarter and continued into overtime, but the Crimson could not find the backboard.
Shahbo was at her best in the opening minute of overtime, stopping another chance by Yoder on a one-on-one situation.
Donahue then won it early in the second overtime. A pass from Guckian into the circle found the stick of first-year
