Game Recap: Field Hockey |

No. 14 Field Hockey Edges Northeastern, 2-0, For Third Straight Win

DEDHAM, Mass – Holding Northeastern without a shot for nearly the entire game, 14th-ranked Harvard field hockey (4-2) won its third straight game with a tough defensive effort in a 2-0 victory over the Huskies (1-6) at Dedham Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Relying on second half goals by first-year Bronte-May Brough and Lucy Leel, the Crimson pulled away from a stubborn Northeastern squad after a scoreless opening 30 minutes.

Neither team registered a shot in the opening 15 minutes, but Harvard dominated possession. Senior captain Kiley Allen running out of room on a one-on-one situation with Northeastern goaltender Jonna Kennedy at the end of the frame for Harvard's best chance.

The Crimson piled up five penalty corners in the second quarter but could not solve Kennedy and the game remained 0-0 at the half.

Harvard finally broke through early in the third quarter on a penalty corner, as stopper Emily Guckian set up Brough for a shot that deflected off a Northeastern defender and into the net just 3:23 into the third quarter to make it 1-0.

Late in the fourth quarter, Northeastern had its best chance of the game, but Kate Blaisdell's shot from the ride side was sticked away by senior goaltender Ellie Shahbo with 5:28 to play.

Moments later, senior Olivia Hoover forced a turnover in the Northeastern circle, setting up a shot by Leel from straightaway into the net with 4:46 to play, sealing the win for Harvard.
