Kate Oliver each scored a goal, and No. 14 Harvard University field hockey topped Columbia University, 3-1, in its Ivy League opener on Friday afternoon at Berylson Field.

The Crimson (5-2, 1-0 Ivy) posted goals in each of the first, second, and third quarters and did not permit the Lions (2-4, 0-1 Ivy) to notch a shot until the fourth quarter when the visitors added a late goal on a penalty stroke. Harvard improved to 26-3 at Berylson Field since the start of the 2018 season and to 21-1 in its last 22 Ivy League games since 2018.
Harvard Highlights
- Sophomore Emily Guckian posted a goal and an assist in the game for a season-high three points. She has now totaled six points on one goal and four assists on the season.
- First-year Bronte-May Brough netted a goal in the second quarter. She has registered a team-best three goals on the year.
- First-year Kate Oliver scored the Crimson's final goal of the contest in the third quarter. She netted her first career goal and now has four points on the year.
- Junior Avery Donahue tallied an assist – her first of the season.
- Junior Mazarine Broze notched an assist – her second of the year.
- Senior Kiley Allen contributed an assist for her first point of 2022.
- Senior goalkeeper Ellie Shahbo played the opening 52:37 in goal to earn the victory before junior Sofia Castore came on for the final 7:23.
- For the game, Harvard held advantages in shots (13-2), shots on goal (9-1), and penalty corners (8-1).
- Harvard improved to 26-3 at Berylson Field since the start of the 2018 season.

How It Happened
- Harvard opened the scoring just over five minutes into the game as Guckian found the back of the net at the 5:08 mark. After Donahue played a ball up the field, Guckian slid a shot past the goalie.
- The Crimson doubled its lead at the 22:09 mark, taking a 2-0 lead in the second quarter. After Broze played in a penalty corner from the left side, Guckian stopped the ball for Brough who drove a shot into the frame.
- Oliver capped the scoring for the Crimson in the third quarter, converting at the 38:42 mark. Allen sent a pass forward for Oliver who spun around her defender and knocked in a shot from close range.
- Through three quarters, Harvard held leads in shots (8-0), shots on goal (6-0), and penalty corners (5-1).
- Maya Walker converted a penalty stroke with two minutes to play at the 58:00 mark for Columbia's goal.
