Game Recap: Men's Ice Hockey |

No. 9/9 Men's Ice Hockey Shuts Down St. Lawrence in 5-0 Shutout Win

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Joe Miller and Sean Farrell each scored a pair of goals, and junior goaltender Derek Mullahy (23 saves) recorded his first career shutout to help No. 9/9 Harvard men's ice hockey (12-4-1, 10-2-0 ECAC Hockey) earn a 5-0 win over St. Lawrence (11-11-0, 6-4-0 ECAC Hockey).

Harvard improved to 7-0 at Bright-Landry Hockey Center this season with the win and earned its fourth victory in its last five games.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Farrell scored a highlight reel goal midway through the opening period to open up the scoring at 9:20. Farrell took an outlet pass from sophomore defenseman Kyle Aucoin, threaded through three St. Lawrence defenders and scored on a backhander while falling down for his ninth goal of the year.

Mullahy was at his best in the minutes after the Farrell goal, stopping a Saints on a backhander form in tight to keep Harvard in the lead.

Then the Crimson potted two goals late in the first period to take a commanding 3-0 lead into the locker room.

First-year Joe Miller scored off a beautiful feed from senior forward John Farinacci to make it 2-0 at 15:19.

Then Farrell added a power play goal at 18:35, beating Zetterquist on the short side.

Harvard picked up where it left off early in the second period, as Miller scored his second of the night at :42, putting in a rebound of a Jack Bar shot to make it 4-0.

First-year defenseman Ryan Healey scored his second goal of the season just as a Harvard power play expired, firing a shot from the left circle that deflected off a St. Lawrence player and beat Zetterquist at 13:07.

In a penalty-filled third period, Harvard killed off three penalties to help Mullahy preserve the shutout, as the junior goaltender improved to 4-0-0 on the season in four starts.
