Coronato's OT Game-Winner Lifts No. 9/9 Men's Ice Hockey to 3-2 Win at Yale

Box Score NEW HAVEN, CT – Sophomore forward Matthew Coronato scored with 19.4 seconds remaining in overtime to lift No. 9/9 Harvard men's ice hockey (13-4-1, 11-2-0 ECAC Hockey) to a 3-2 win over Yale (3-11-4, 2-9-2 ECAC Hockey) on Friday night at Ingalls Rink.

Senior goaltender Mitchell Gibson made 23 saves to earn the win in net.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Despite pumping 12 shots on net in the first period and earning three power play chances, it was Yale that led after 20 minutes on a partial breakaway score by Teddy Wooding at 13:05.

Harvard responded early in the second period with two goals in a span of 1:19 to take a 2-1 lead. At the :44 mark, first-year Joe Miller scored his 11th goal of the year, corralling a Yale turnover at the blue line and beating Yale goaltender Luke Pearson (28 saves) up top after weaving through two Yale defenders.

Then, first-year defenseman Mason Langenbrunner scored his first collegiate goal, skating across the blueline and firing a shot through traffic to beat Pearson at 2:03.

Harvard nearly made it 3-1 on a power play minutes later, but Pearson used the paddle of his stick to stop a Matthew Coronato shot from in close.

Yale tied the game on a 2-on-1 goal for Ian Carpentier at 5:47 of the second period, setting the stage for a frenetic finish.

Gibson was at his best in the final period of regulation, stopping Cole Donhauser on a rebound chance with an extended glove stop at 7:52 of the period.

Later on at the 13:40 mark, he stopped an Ian Carpentier breakaway with a sliding left pad save.

In overtime, a series of tic-tac-toe passes from junior forward Sean Farrell to senior defenseman Henry Thrun and finally to Coronato at the left circle gave the sophomore an open lane to the net. Coronato cut from left to right and beat Pearson low to give Harvard the game-winning score.
