CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Rising sophomore Richard Gallant and incoming first-year Alex Huang have been named to their respective countries' World Junior Summer Showcase rosters, with Gallant representing the United States and Huang representing Canada.
The World Junior Summer Showcase includes the United States, Canada, Finland and Sweden as the four hockey nations prepare to make their roster selections ahead of the 2027 IIHF World Junior Championship.
Gallant, a native of Concord, Mass., was added to Team USA's World Junior Summer Showcase roster three weeks ago. He appeared in all 34 games last season, recording 18 points on eight goals and 10 assists. Gallant scored his first career goal in his collegiate debut at UConn on Oct. 31.
Huang, a fourth-round selection of the Nashville Predators, comes to Cambridge from the Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League. He recorded 11 goals and 59 assists for the Chicoutimi Saguenéens last season, helping the team capture the 2025-26 QMJHL championship.
The showcase, which began yesterday, will feature Gallant and the United States taking on Huang and Canada on Aug. 1.
The World Junior Summer Showcase serves as an evaluation opportunity for athletes seeking to make their respective national teams for the 2027 IIHF World Junior Championship, which is scheduled for Dec. 26, 2026-Jan. 5, 2027, in Edmonton and Red Deer, Alberta.
