Game Recap: Women's Ice Hockey |

Davidson Adams and Pellicci lead Harvard to 3-1 Victory over RPI

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - The Harvard Crimson (6-11-3, 5-7-3 ECAC) earned a key 3-1 gritty victory over Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (6-18-1, 2-11-1 ECAC) on Friday, Jan. 20 at Bright-Landry Hockey Center. Harvard's three goals from Anne Bloomer, Gabi Davidson Adams and Shannon Hollands as well as 39 total saves from Alex Pellicci paved the way to victory for the Crimson.

How it Happened

  • The Crimson and the Engineers flew through the first period, playing the period in only 28 minutes of real time. Harvard had the hot hand to begin the game, putting four early shots on target to test the Engineer defense.
  • Shannon Hollands had the first good scoring look of the game, getting robbed after Paige Lester put a great pass right on the tape.
  • RPI scored the first goal of the game 11:23 into the period to take a 1-0 lead.
  • Harvard evened the score at one after Anne Bloomer scored her ninth goal of the year. Bloomer's shot from the blue line was deflected and the bouncing puck found its way past the RPI keeper to tie the game.

  • The period would end in a 1-1 tie with Harvard outshooting the Engineers, 12-10.
  • Gabi Davidson Adams scored her fifth goal of the season midway through the second period after carrying the puck through the neutral zone and eventually sticking a shot in the back of the net. Bloomer and Kyra Willoughby had the assists on the goal.

  • After notching 21 saves through two periods, Goaltender Alex Pellicci's four saves in the first two minutes of third killed off RPI's power play.
  • Pellicci would make save after save in the third, racking up 18 saves in the period and 39 total in the game to keep RPI locked in at one goal.
  • At the 16:25 mark of the third period, RPI pulled their goalie.
  • Harvard would immediately take advantage. At the 16:45 mark, Shannon Hollands would slap the puck away from the RPI defender at mid-ice and the puck would find its way into the back of the net, giving Harvard a 3-1 lead and securing the win.
