PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Junior forward
Sean Farrell scored a pair of goals, but No. 9/9 Harvard men's ice hockey (13-5-1, 11-3-0 ECAC Hockey) fell, 3-2, at Brown (8-11-2, 4-8-2 ECAC Hockey) on Saturday night (Jan. 21) at Meehan Auditorium.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Brown took an early lead on Bradley Cocca's goal at 3:00 of the opening period, but Harvard wasted little time to even the score at 1-1.
A quick outlet pass from sophomore defenseman
Ian Moore found the stick of junior forward
Sean Farrell, who curled around the right circle into the slot and hit the top corner at 3:39 for his 11th goal of the season.
Brown took a two-goal lead after 40 minutes, capitalizing on a bad break for the Crimson while on the power play. Brown's James Crossman fired a shot on net that
Mitchell Gibson kicked away, but the puck deflected off a Harvard defenseman into the net at 6:03.
Brown's Ryan Shostak scored on a wrist shot from the left circle to give Brown a 3-1 edge at the end of the second period.
Harvard dominated possession and play in the third period, outshooting Brown 19-2 in the final frame alone.
With an extra attacker on the ice, Farrell made it a one goal game, taking a cross-ice feed from senior captain
Henry Thrun and hitting the open net with 22.6 seconds to play.
But Harvard couldn't find the tying score in the final seconds of the game.
