HAMILTON, N.Y. – The Harvard women's hockey team went toe-to-toe with one of the nation's best, the Colgate Raiders, battling in a hard-fought effort but coming up short after a 3-1 result fell to its rival. The Crimson (7-13-3, 6-9-3 ECACH) got an outstanding effort from its goaltender,
Alex Pellicci, who made 46 saves in the contest.
Kristin Della Rovere also turned in an impressive performance with a goal in the tilt.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Raiders and the Crimson
- Alex Pellicci turned aside 18 shots in the first period to anchor the Crimson defensive effort. Five skaters blocked shots in front of Pellicci to hold off the Raiders. Harvard also killed off two Raider penalties to preserve the scoreless tie.
- Sophie Ensley and Kristin Della Rovere had the best looks in the attacking zone in the first period, both were turned aside by Colgate.
- Colgate struck first with a goal 5:32 into the second period.
- Shannon Hollands had a great look at a goal midway through the frame but was robbed off the tying goal twice by the Raider goaltender.
- Anne Bloomer also had a pair of great looks created on the forecheck. Colgate kept the Crimson off the board with a pair of saves.
- The Raiders added a tally later in the period to take a 2-0 lead.
- After having a goal called back after a lengthy review, Kristin Della Rovere scored on a breakaway with just 0.9 seconds remaining in the second period.
- Harvard had a couple of decent scoring chances in the first half of the final period, but Colgate clung on to its 2-1 lead.
- The Raiders added a tally at 13:32 in the third to improve its lead.
- Harvard could not find the back of the net in the final push, falling to Colgate by a score of 3-1.
HARVARD HIGHLIGHTS
- Alex Pellicci finished the contest with 46 saves, holding one of the nation's best scoring teams to under its season average
- Kristin Della Rovere scored her fifth goal of the season
- Anne Bloomer and Kyra Willoughby added the assists on the tally
- Della Rovere also led the group with seven shots on net
- Harvard blocked 19 shots as a team this afternoon, led by Jenna MacDonald and her five stops
- Shannon Hollands and Della Rover both won double digit faceoffs (11 and 14, respectively)
- The Harvard penalty kill stopped one of the best powerplay units in the country three separate times in the contest

Harvard will have the week to regroup and prepare for a key ECAC battle with the Princeton Tigers. Puck drop between the Ivy League rivals is set for 3 PM on Friday, Feb. 3 at the Bright-Landry Hockey Center.
