Harvard Women’s Hockey Comeback Falls Short in 3-2 Decision to Princeton

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Harvard women's hockey put together an impressive comeback in a close loss to Ivy League rival Princeton this afternoon, falling to the Tigers by a score of 3-2. The Crimson (7-14-3, 6-10-3 ECACH) rallied with a pair of goals in the final two periods from Gabi Davidson Adams and Anne Bloomer.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Crimson fell behind early in the first period off a quick goal from the Tigers. After a penalty was called against Harvard, Princeton managed to add another tally on the board to take a 2-0 lead midway through the first.
  • The Tigers were able to add one more goal late in the third period to take a 3-0 lead into the first intermission.
  • The second period began with a back-and-forth battle between the two sides. The defenses of both groups were stout as the teams combined for only three shots on target in the first 11 minutes of the middle frame.
  • The Harvard powerplay took advantage of its opportunity midway through the period, putting a goal on the board courtesy of Gabi Davidson Adams. The sophomore's seventh goal of the season was assisted by Ellie Bayard and Anne Bloomer at 12:26 in the period.
  • Harvard's PK unit stood tall in the second period, stopping all three Tigers powerplays in the period.
  • Alex Pellicci made 12 saves in the second twenty minutes to keep the Crimson within reach.
  • Anne Bloomer started the Harvard comeback effort with a shorthanded goal at 11:07 in the third period. Kristin Della Rovere started the breakout by creating a turnover that led to a breakaway shot. The rebound was set up beautifully for Bloomer, who cleaned up for the second Harvard goal.
  • Jade Arnone almost tied the game after a pretty set up from Bloomer. The Princeton goalie was able to get a pad on the shot to keep Harvard down a goal.
  • Gwynn Lapp had the tying goal on her stick in the closing seconds but her shot was turned away as Princeton clung on to win by a final score of 3-2.
