Women’s Ice Hockey Falls in Beanpot Semifinals to Boston College

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Harvard women's ice hockey (7-14-3, 6-10-3 ECAC put up a fight against the Boston College Eagles (17-12-1, 14-10 HEA) on their home ice but fell to the Eagles in a 3-0 decision. The Crimson played well in the contest, creating multiple scoring chances while standing tall on the defensive end, slowing down its cross-town rival. In the end, it was the Eagles who prevailed and now move on to the Beanpot Championship game.
 
The Crimson will take on Boston University in the consolation matchup next Tuesday, February 14 at 4:00 PM inside Conte Forum.
 

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The 44th annual Women's Beanpot kicked off tonight with the Crimson squaring off against the Boston College Eagles in a rematch of the 2022 Beanpot Title game.
  • Emerance Maschmeyer was inducted into the Beanpot Hall of Fame Class of 2023 during the pregame ceremonies. Maschmeyer is still the only goalie in the Beanpot to win both the MVP and the Bertagna Award (top goalie) since the latter was first given in 2000.
  • After the puck dropped, the Crimson got the first shot on net courtesy of Sophie Ensley.
  • The Eagles took a quick one goal lead after they managed to sneak a shot past the defense and Pellicci 3:46 into the opening period.
  • The sophomore netminder made ten more saves the rest of the period to calm things down.
  • Harvard created a number of chances in the period, frequently skating down the ice with numbers. The Crimson tallied nine shots on goal in the opening frame but were kept off the board.
  • The Eagles added two goals in the second period to take a 3-0 lead into the second intermission.
  • Harvard came out firing in the final period, outshooting the Eagles 15-8 during the final 20 minutes.
  • The Crimson put consistent pressure on the Boston College defense, controlling the puck in their defensive zone for a majority of the period.
  • Harvard pulled Pellicci with just under three minutes, taking nie shot attempts while controlling the puck for the rest of the contest.
  • The Crimson ran out of time, dropping the contest to the Eagles, 3-0.
 

GAME NOTES

  • Alex Pellicci made 31 saves in the effort including 13 during the second period
  • Kristin Della Rovere led the team with six shots on goal
  • Sophie Ensley and Shannon Hollands each had five shots on net
  • Kyra Willoughby had a team-high six blocked shots
  • Jade Arnone blocked three shots in front of Pellicci
  • Della Rovere also led the team in the faceoff circle, recording 16 wins on the dot  
  • The Crimson threw 15 shots on net in the third period as it attempted to mount a comeback
 

UP NEXT

Harvard will host Clarkson at Bright-Landry this Friday night in its final home contest of the 2022-23 season. The Crimson will honor its senior class after the game as a part of the senior night festivities.
