Box Score PRINCETON, N.J. - Harvard women's hockey continued the first series of the second half on Saturday with a matchup on the road at Princeton. After a strong defensive showing in the first two periods, the Tigers (9-6-1, 5-5-0 ECAC) notched three goals in the final frame to walk away with a 3-0 victory over the Crimson (4-10-2, 3-7-2 ECAC).
Harvard played well in the first twenty minutes of action, putting 11 shots on goal to outshoot the Tigers. The Crimson powerplay looked sharp in its first opportunity of the night, controlling possession in the offensive zone and putting three shots on net. The period would end in a scoreless tie as both sides failed to find the back of the net.
The Crimson began the second period short-handed, but killed off a Tiger powerplay, not allowing a single shot to reach the net. Harvard once again outshot the Tigers, registering 14 shots on target, but were held off the scoreboard.
A five-minute major was assessed to Harvard at the end of the period, as the Crimson opened the third frame short-handed. The penalty killers for Harvard performed well, holding off the attack for three minutes, before the Tigers snuck a shot past
Alex Pellicci, to take a one-goal lead early in the final frame.
Princeton would tally two more scores in the final 12 minutes of action to register a 3-0 victory.
HARVARD HIGHLIGHTS
- Shots on goal were even in the contest at 32 apiece.
- Jade Arnone led the group with ten shot attempts, six being on target.
- Kristin Della Rovere won 15 faceoffs for a .600 winning percentage.
- Kyra Willoughby registered a season high six blocked shots.
- The Crimson outshot the Tigers 11-10 in the first period.
- Alex Pellicci made 10 saves in the first and second periods.
- The Crimson killed off four Tiger powerplays, allowing a powerplay goal for the first time since Nov. 19 and just the sixth all season.
