Women’s Ice Hockey Drops 3-1 Result to Union

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Harvard women's hockey showed a lot of growth in tonight's contest against the Union Garnet Chargers but fell in an eventual 3-1 loss to the ECAC foe. The Crimson (0-2-0, 0-2-0 ECACH) opened up the Bright-Landry Hockey Center tonight, marking the first home contest for the new Landry Family Head Coach for Harvard Women's Ice Hockey, Laura Bellamy.
 
Shannon Hollands scored the lone goal for the Crimson in the first period after Zoe Boosamra and Gabi Davidson Adams set up the senior captain for her first strike of the season.
 

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Crimson opened up the Bright-Landry Hockey Center this evening with another ECAC contest against the Union Garnet Chargers.
  • It was a slow start for both programs tonight, as neither team registered a shot on goal until the four-minute mark. Gwyn Lapp notched the first shots on goal for the Crimson in the contest.
  • Union fought back, putting two shots on goal that were saved by Alex Pellicci. The Garnet Chargers would keep pushing and get its first goal of the night, eight minutes into the matchup to take a 1-0 lead.
  • Shannon Hollands netted the equalizer for the Crimson with four minutes left in the first period, scoring her first goal of the season. Hollands punched home the goal after a great set up by Zoe Boosamra and Gabi Davidson Adams.
  • Union countered with its second goal of the night, scored on the powerplay, with just 47 seconds to go in the period.
  • It was a defensive battle in the second period as both teams combined for just 11 shots on net in the frame.
  • Maria Pape and Angelica Megdanis both had good looks on the net early but were denied by the Union goalkeeper.
  • Alex Pellicci made eight saves in the frame to keep the Crimson within striking distance going into the third period.
  • Harvard came out fast in the third period, recording several strong scoring chances. Davidson Adams and Mia Biotti both had great looks get turned away as the score remained 2-1 going into the final stretch.
  • Union netted its final goal with five minutes to go, making the score 3-1.
  • Harvard fought back, clearing the net and creating good chances in the final three minutes. The score would hold at 3-1 when the final buzzer sounded.
 

HARVARD HIGHLIGHTS

  • Shannon Hollands scored the lone goal for the Crimson, her first of the season.
  • Zoe Boosamra now has two points in both her collegiate games after recording an assist on the Hollands.
  • Davidson Adams recorded the other assist on the Hollands goal and now has points in back-to-back games.
  • Biotti, Hollands, Lapp and Davidson Adams all tied for the team lead with three shots on goal.
  • Hollands also had a great night in the faceoff circle, winning 16 of 23 draws.
  • Mia Biotti recorded three blocked shots on the defensive end.
  • Pellicci made 18 saves to backstop the effort.

The Crimson will be back on the ice tomorrow afternoon for a matchup with the RPI Engineers. Puck drop is set for 3:00 PM at the Bright-Landry Hockey Center and on ESPN+
