Box Score CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Harvard women's ice hockey earned its first ECAC point of the season but fell in an overtime battle to the RPI Engineers by a score of 5-4. The Crimson got a late goal from
Mia Biotti to tie the game with just over a minute left, but the Engineers went on to secure two points with the overtime win.
Sophie Ensley and
Maria Pape scored their first collegiate goals in the contest that also involved scores from Biotti and
Shannon Hollands. The Crimson (0-3-0, 0-3-0 ECACH) will now. move on to its road contests against Brown and Yale next weekend.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Harvard played the second half of its first back-to-back this season when it faced off with the RPI Engineers this afternoon.
- Mia Biotti registered the first of six shots on goal for the Crimson in the first period.
- Sophie Ensley recorded the first goal of the game for Harvard at 5:31 in the period off a great setup from Mia Biotti and Shannon Hollands. Ensley slammed home the rebound off a Biotti shot to net her first career goal and the first of the night.
- RPI took three penalties in the first ten minutes of the contest, the third of which was a five-minute boarding major.
- Harvard took advantage on the major penalty, scoring two goals to increase its lead to 3-0. The first belonged to Shannon Hollands, who fired a snap-shot from the right circle to the top right corner of the net, beating RPI's goaltender.
- Just thirty seconds later, Maria Pape ripped a shot from the point past a crowd of Engineer defenders and into the back of the net for her first career goal.
- Alex Pellicci only needed to make three saves in the period to keep RPI off the scoreboard.
- RPI would get its first goal of the night on a power play early in the second period to cut into the Crimson lead. The Engineers added another powerplay strike late in the period to make the score 3-2 going into the final frame.
- Harvard had four quality looks on goal turned aside by RPI in the second period.
- RPI added its third and fourth goals of the game late in the third period to take a 4-3 lead with just over three minutes remaining.
- With just over a minute left, Harvard pulled its goaltender, Alex Pellicci, for an extra skater as the team looked for the equalizer. The Crimson would find get the game-tying-goal courtesy of Mia Biotti, whose shot from the point sailed through traffic and into the top left corner of the net.
- The Crimson held off the Engineers for the remainder of regulation and sent the game to and overtime period.
- Ellie Bayard and Maria Pape both had great looks in the front of the net denied in the first two minutes of overtime, as the Crimson was narrowly denied of the game-winner.
- After another series of back-and-forth possessions, RPI picked up a loose puck and got a shot across the line to take the win.
- Harvard picked up its first conference points of the season but fell to the Engineers by a score of 5-4.

- Sophie Ensley opened the scoring with her first collegiate goal in the first period.
- Maria Pape added her first career goal in the first as well.
- Shannon Hollands has now scored in back-to-back games with Harvard's third goal in the first period.
- Mia Biotti scored the game-tying-goal, her first of the season, in the third period.
- Biotti finished with three points, adding two assists in the contest.
- Zoe Boosamra, Kate Kasica, Gabi Davidson Adams and Hollands tallied the over Crimson assists.
- Harvard finished the night two-for-five on the powerplay, adding its first two powerplay strikes of the season.
