ITHACA, NY. – No. 9 Harvard Field hockey (13-3, 7-0 Ivy) won a thrilling game against Cornell to cap off an undefeated season in Ivy Play.
Lara Beekhuis scored both goals for Harvard including a buzzer-beater to clinch sole possession of the 2023 Ivy Title. With the win, Harvard will host the inaugural Ivy Field Hockey Tournament next weekend at Berlyson Field.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Kitty Chapple had the first opportunity for the Crimson after firing a shot off a corner attempt that was pushed just wide early in the first quarter.
Cornell had two good looks late in the first quarter. The first attempt of a Big Red corner was swatted away from a diving
Tessa Shahbo while the second chance from in tight was put just wide shortly after the original corner.
Lara Beekhuis scored first after a corner attempt for the Crimson. Off a pass from
Mazarine Broze, Beekhuis fired a shot that found the back of the net. The first-year scored her fifth of the season on the first-quarter tally.
Shahbo made her second impressive stop off a corner attempt late in the second quarter. The sophomore had yet another diving stop to deflect the Big Red chance toward the sidelines.
Cornell tied the game early in the fourth quarter. The fourth-quarter tally from the Big Red was the first goal allowed by the Crimson defense since Oct.1
With two seconds left in the fourth quarter,
Lara Beekhuis slammed home a rebound to beat the buzzer and clinch hosting rights for the Ivy Tournament. The first-multi goal game in her career, Beekhuis fired a rocket from way back into the left corner of the cage.
Harvard completes the undefeated conference season for the first time since 2021 and has defeated four ranked opponents this season.

Harvard will host the Ivy Tournament starting on Friday Nov. 3 with the two semi-finals matchups and the final taking place on Sunday, Nov. 5.
