CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Harvard women's tennis competed in two singles, and one doubles match on the final day of the ITA Northeast Regionals, going a perfect 4-0 to close out the weekend.
Traci Green, The Sheila Kelly Palandjian Head Coach for Harvard Women's Tennis, said about the Crimson weekend, "I'm very impressed with how much our team has grown week to week and how we've made adjustments match to match. It was an honor to host Regionals at Harvard and we're pleased to be sending four singles players and three doubles teams to Super Regionals at West Point in a couple weeks."
In singles,
Holly Fischer and
Kate Kim competed for the Crimson with chances to punch their tickets to the super regionals. Fischer dropped Jenna Sloan (Quinnipiac) for her third singles win of the weekend. The junior took the first set 6-3 and then dominated 6-1 in the second. In Kim's match, the Crimson first-year was back-and-forth with Shiori Ito (Syracuse) in the first set but ultimately pulled ahead with a 7-5 decision. The second set was all Kim as she breezed to a 6-0 result to claim the victory.
In doubles first-year's
Kavya Karra and
Stephanie Yakoff teamed up for the second time this weekend to face off against Anastasia Sysoeva and Miyuka Kimto (Syracuse) in the round of 16. The duos traded sets to begin the match with Syracuse briefly pulling ahead 5-3. From there on out the Crimson took over the match, not dropping another game the rest of the match to win, 8-5. Moving into quarterfinals the Crimson first-years were able to knock off Danielle Hack and Thamonpan Jonglertrakul (UMass), 8-4, to punch their tickets to the ITA Super Regionals.
The four Crimson to advance to the super regionals will join
Maxi Duncan and
Charlotte Owensby in singles and the duos of Fischer and Duncan and
Iveta Daujotaite and
Rachel Arbitman in doubles play.
