Game Recap: Women's Ice Hockey |

Women's Ice Hockey Win's First of the Season after Defeating BU 3-1

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Women's ice hockey (1-8-1, 0-8-1 ECAC) picked up its first win of the season after defeating cross-town rival Boston University on Tuesday night at Bright-Landry. The Crimson skated to a 3-1 victory on home ice after goals from Gabi Davidson Adams, Kaley MacDonald, and Kayley Crawford

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Harvard came out firing in the opening minutes after striking first on the rush. Zoe Boosamra flew down the boards and found Kaley MacDonald in the slot. The rookie wired a shot top-shelf to give Harvard an early lead for her second goal of the year.
  • Harvard wasted no time adding another after Kayley Crawford netted her second of the year as well. The Junior picked up a pass from Gwyn Lapp in the slot after some nice cycling from Hannah Chorske, Lapp, and Crawford.
  • Alex Pellicci was solid between the pipes after making stops on all seven Terrier attempts.
  • In another great start to a period,  Harvard threw six shots on net in the first five minutes of the middle frame.
  • Alex Pellicci made two stellar pad stops in the first ten minutes of the second period on point-blank looks from the Terriers.
  • Harvard added another after Kayley Crawford threw the puck up to Gabi Davidson Adams to send the Crimson on a 2 on 1 late in the second period. Davidson Adams found Lapp who gave it right back to the Ontario native. GDA had a wide-open net and tapped it in for her second of the season. The helper from Crawford was her second point in two periods on Tuesday night.
  • The Terriers added their first of the game with 16.6 seconds left in the second period after converting on a rebound just outside of the crease. The Crimson took a 3-1 lead into the break.
  • Alex Pellicci opened the third period with not one but two highlight reel stops. A pass from the point found its way onto a Terrier stick on the far post but the junior from Minnesota was able to go post to post and keep the puck out. After Harvard wasn't able to clear the zone, Pellicci had to make another impressive pad stop.
  • Pellicci made one more clutch save for the Crimson with just under four minutes to play in the third period.

HAVARD HIGHLIGHTS

  • Head Coach Laura Bellamy records her first career win with the victory over the Terriers.
  • Crawford's two-point night was the first of her career.
  • Kaley MacDonald has goals in two of the last three games.
  • Harvard was able to hold off a 6 on 5 for the Terriers for nearly four minutes.
