Game Recap: Men's Ice Hockey |

Men's Hockey Falls to No. 2 Boston College

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – No. 20 men's ice hockey (1-3-3, 1-1-3 ECAC) dropped a tight matchup to No. 2 Boston College on Sunday afternoon. The Crimson went into the third period tied at one apiece with the nationally ranked Eagles but was unable to overcome a three-goal third period from its Boston rival. Captain Zakary Karpa scored his first of the season in the second period in his return to the lineup after essentially missing two games due to an injury.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Boston area rivals played a tight game throughout the first twenty minutes of play as neither team was able to generate a dangerous scoring attempt. Harvard led in shots after the first twenty minutes 6-5. The Crimson was also awarded the lone power-play of the opening period after the Eagles were called for a cross-check.

Derek Mullahy followed up his first-period performance with a fifteen-save second period and only allowed one goal late in the middle frame. Boston College opened the scoring with a strike by Ryan Leonard who fired a shot through traffic that just beat the senior netminder.

Boston College added another tally earlier in the period that was called back due to goaltender interference.

The Crimson wasted no time responding to the Eagles' goal after Cam Johnson threw a puck on net that Zakary Karpa deflected for his first goal of the year. Karpa, who missed the Friday matchup with UMass due to injury tied the game at one. Cam Johnson is now tied for the team lead in points with one goal and five assists in seven games. The Vancouver native has points in three consecutive games.

Coming out of the second intermission Derek Mullahy made an incredible stop after diving across to rob Boston College of an easy tap-in goal. The senior netminder finished with 32 saves on the evening – just three shy of his season-high of 35.

The Eagles added two quick goals after some nice passing plays to take a 3-1 lead into the dying minutes. The Eagles scored their fourth goal of the game on a late power-play.  The Crimson PK unit killed off 4 of 5 penalties in the game.
