POTSDAM, N.Y. –
Derek Mullahy stopped 27 of 29 shots attempts in game one of the back-to-back but Harvard ultimately fell to the Golden Knights by a score of 3-0 on Friday evening. The Crimson closes out the calendar year with St. Lawrence tomorrow evening.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Mullahy was sharp in the first period after stopping 11 of 12 shots but none better than an early glove stop on Cody Monds. Monds tried to squeeze a shot between the post but Mullahy was able to swat it down with his glove and land on top of any potential rebound.
Shortly after the Mullahy save Clarkson found the back of the net after a shot from the point was deflected by Ryan Taylor to take a 1-0 lead just over halfway into the period.
The Crimson was awarded a power-play two minutes after Clarkson took the lead. Phil Tresca,
Alex Gaffney, and
Ryan Healey all had great looks throughout the man advantage. Both Gaffney and Healey hit the post during the power-play. Harvard was able to kill off a penalty to
Marek Hejduk after the man advantage had expired for the Crimson.
Clarkson opened the second with a goal to take a two-goal lead just over a minute into the period. Mullahy was able to make one stop after a giveaway out front but had no chance to stop the rebound that popped out into open ice for an easy tap-in goal.
Harvard had a pair of power-plays midway through the second period but was unable to capitalize on either attempt. After the first power-play had expired the first unit had the Knights pinned in their own end for over a minute and a half as Harvard awaited another power-play. The Crimson had multiple scoring chances
The best look in the third period came from a steal from
Cam Johnson who found
Zakary Karpa at the top of the left circle. Karpa was able to push off a Clarkson defender and fire a shot that was kicked up into the netting.
Mullahy made 29 stops on 31 attempts in the contest.
